Call the Governor, Write a Letter to the Editor

Field Burning is in the news. If you haven't heard, the Governor is now proposing to introduce a bill into the 2009 Oregon State Legislature to ban field burning in the Willamette Valley by 2011. It would cut the current amount of acreage allowed (65,000) in half (to 32,500) by 2010, and ban burning completely by 2011.

While Oregon Toxics Alliance supports the Governor's proposal as a step in the right direction, we want to see an end to field burning now. If you have to ask why, just read Victor Rozek's op-ed in the Oregonian - A Real Face Behind the Clouds of Smoke.

For a doctor's view on field burning and the damage it's doing to our health, read Dr. Bob Carolan's op-ed in the Register Guard - Medical Studies Make Case to Ban Field Burning .

Contact the Governor and thank him for taking a stand to protect our health, but urge him to go a step further and protect our health now by banning field burning immediately.

Letters to the editor are a good way to influence the Governor also.
