County Proposes Changes to Air Quality Rules
As Lane County residents, we're lucky to have our very own air quality agency – the Lane Regional Air Protection Agency (LRAPA). This gives us local control for the times when the EPA and Oregon DEQ aren’t doing enough (which is more often than you might think).

Unfortunately, LRAPA staff doesn't see it that way. They are proposing rule changes to the LRAPA board that "streamline permits" and update rules to "ensure consistency" with the state. The problem with this approach is:
- The public's health should be the highest priority for LRAPA. Not streamlining permits.
- Lane County is the only county to have our own air quality agency. We should serve as a leader by desiging programs that encourage toxic use reduction and protect public health. We should not be content with following the state.
- We should not pay more in taxes for a local air quality agency to mimic what's already being done by state agencies.
The LRAPA board will ultimately vote on this important issue. They and the staff need to hear from you. Send them a message based on the above statements. LRAPA shouldn't be happy with the status quo. Any changes they make should be based on toxics use reduction.
We also urge you to speak about the specific rule changes being proposed. For more information on those, click here.
